Bucharest, 4th of April 2024 – SAMEDAY, the first delivery company in Romania to expand operations beyond borders, accelerates the expansion of out-of-home delivery solutions up to 8.500 delivery points in the region. Amid growing twice the number of cross-border orders delivered in the past 12 months and, due to the accelerated increase of volumes in the three countries where the company operates, the Romanian delivery player will open 3.500 new easyboxes and shop-in-shop delivery and pick-up points. Thus, the company that has introduced the easybox delivery solution in the Romanian market will extend by 70% the out-of-home active network in the region.

The easybox regional network, which operates in Romania, Hungary, and Bulgaria, currently has over 5,000 lockers spread across more than 860 localities. Among these, Romania has over 3,900 easyboxes, Hungary has over 700, and Bulgaria has 500. By November 2024, when the peak season will begin for the e-commerce and for the delivery companies, the out-of-home delivery network will have 8.500 delivery points, whereof over 80% will be easyboxes. The network expansion targets the increase of geographical coverage up to 1.000 cities in the region so that the consumers will have easy access to the delivery and pick-up points.

The regional goal is for 50% of the total population to be within a seven-minute walking distance to the nearest point of the regional delivery infrastructure. Additionally, SAMEDAY plans to increase the stock capacity of the easyboxes, which are highly popular among consumers.

” We are committed to strengthening our position as a key partner in the growth of eCommerce in the region. To achieve this, we are expanding our regional out-of-home delivery infrastructure, increasing the number of easyboxes, and implementing the shop-in-shop systems. We aim to invest in a scalable and sustainable modern delivery infrastructure that enhances the customer experience and reduces delivery costs for online shops in Romania, Hungary, and Bulgaria. By expanding our infrastructure, we can also increase the number of consumers that online shops in the region can reach with ease.” has declared Lucian Baltaru, CEO Sameday Group.

Consistent growth in the cross-border delivery segment

In the past 12 months, the number of parcels shipped from Romania to Hungary and Bulgaria has doubled, following the popularity trend that the cross-border delivery services have among clients. Between April 2023 and April 2024, SAMEDAY registered a 115% increase in the number of online shops that have accessed cross-border delivery services in comparison with the same period of the previous year. The service is currently accessed by over 6.000 clients and, it is open to business for all online shops that collaborate with SAMEDAY and wish for international expansion.

Over the past 12 months, SAMEDAY has delivered a total of 95 million parcels in the region, further solidifying its position as a key partner in helping Romanian online shops expand into international markets. As the first Romanian delivery company to operate beyond borders, SAMEDAY enters its fourth year of operation in Hungary and its second year in Bulgaria in 2024. In the coming year, SAMEDAY plans to make strategic investments to strengthen the delivery ecosystem in the region and offer solutions that will support the growth of online shops.

Investments in a faster cross-border delivery solution

In 2023, the easybox network has grown at a regional level by over 11% in comparison with the last year. In the newly open markets, Hungary and Bulgaria, in the past year the number of easyboxes installed has increased by 37%.

Because of the growing trend of the number of delivered parcels in the region, in 2024 the SAMEDAY Group will invest over 150 million RON in increasing the delivery capacity by the expansion of the out-of-home network.

SAMEDAY Group plans to invest over 300 million RON in 2024. The investment will be directed towards expanding the regional out-of-home network, enhancing technological developments, and optimising delivery capacity and speed of processing orders.

Sameday wants to create an open delivery zone in the region

The operations that SAMEDAY opened in 2020 in Hungary and 2022 in Bulgaria foster the creation of a unified delivery zone, without any borders. Thus, the online shops in Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria can easily enlarge the strategies of approaching clients, with a bigger power of penetration in the region and, without the need for localized stocks in each country.

Complementary to the cross-border delivery solutions, SAMEDAY places the Personal drop off to easybox service, First Mile to easybox, at the Romanian, Hungarian and Bulgarian merchants’ disposal. By using this service, the online shops can reduce the delivery costs and can easily load the parcels at any easybox, whenever they want, day or night. A total of 400.000 parcels have been dropped off directly in easyboxes only by the Romanian merchants in less than a year from the launch of the service.
The regional expansion announced by SAMEDAY aligns with the company’s strategy to establish a regional delivery infrastructure for online shops that is easily accessible and capable of sustaining services that bring a high level of performance in costs and delivery time.
